The newest star of The Masked Singer US has been revealed… yet neither the fans nor the judging panel were surprised.
On Wednesday’s edition of the American version of the singing competition, which has previously sent home artists such as Dick Van Dyke and Grandmaster Flash, three superstars – dressed as Gargoyle, Wolf, and Squirrel – performed for a superhero-themed concert inspired by DC Comics characters.
Gargoyle and Squirrel were declared safe following their initial performances, but Wolf was eliminated after belting out Break On Through by The Doors.
Judges Nicole Scherzinger, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, and Robin Thicke watched as none other than pop rock musician Michael Bolton was exposed as presenter Nick Cannon ordered Everyone to turn off their music.
Michael, 70, claimed that he ‘might get accustomed to being the Wolf’ after being unmasked.
It’s great, the audience is great, the show’s great,’ he said, before teasing that he has a new album coming out in spring.
‘It’s about making this a beautiful world, despite what’s going on, whatever the climb we’ve got to do our best to make it a beautiful world,’ he said.
The two-time Grammy Award and six-time American Music Award winner surprised home viewers, many of whom admitted they had suspected it was him all along.
‘I knew Wolf was Michael Bolton as soon as he started singing!’ one person tweeted, while another wrote: ‘Tell me this is not Michael Bolton. I’m not a child of the 90s for nothing,’ in response to his performance.
‘Can’t fool me Michael Bolton,’ someone else quipped alongside a photo of him while his Wolf mask was still on.
Meanwhile, others were astounded that Wolf got the boot, with one person writing: ‘This is how you know that The Masked Singer is not about the best singers. It’s just entertainment. Who would vote off Michael Bolton if it was about the voice?’
‘How the hell did they choose either of these clowns over Michael Bolton,’ another remarked.
Nicole went up as Catwoman for The Masked Singer US’s DC Superheroes Night, Jenny as Harley Quinn, Ken as the Riddler, and Robin as his namesake, Batman’s sidekick Robin.
Nicole also performed Holding Out For A Hero, a song initially sung by Bonnie Tyler in 1984 for the film Footloose.
The Masked Singer US airs on Fox in the US.
