The Bay viewers were delighted on Wednesday evening, with series three of the hit drama returning to our screens.
There was a brand new mystery in prospect – and a new star to look out for, with DS Jenn Townsend (Marsha Thomason) arriving on the scene as the actress replaced Morven Christie.
The first episode of series three began with the gruesome discovery of a dead body, which was tied to a buoy out to sea.
DS Townsend was thrust into the heart of the action straight away as she’s assigned the case.
As far as introductions to the not-so-sleepy seaside town could have, it was quite the first day.
Fans on social media wasted no time in voicing their opinions on the new cast member on Twitter, and they were overwhelmingly positive about the new series lead.
‘Marsha Thomason has fitted right in like she’s been there for years. #TheBay,’ one wrote.
Another said: ‘Good to see Marsha Tomason back on our screens,’ one wrote. ‘She’s a tremendous actress.
‘Loving @Marsha_Thomason already. I think she’s working brilliantly with @ErinShanagher who also delivers fantastic chemistry on screen,’ one more added.
There were still plenty of fans who were missing Morven’s character Lisa Armstrong following her departure after series two, though.
It was previously announced that actress Morven would not be returning in her role as police detective Lisa Armstrong, and instead the third season will introduce viewers to her replacement, DS Townsend.
The series sees her struggle to balance her family’s house move alongside the pressures of her new role.
An official synopsis for the ITV series explains how the new law official is ‘immediately thrown into the deep end when a body is found in the bay on her first day in the job.
She must get under the skin of a grieving and complicated family if she has any chance of solving the premature death of an aspiring young boxer. While she’s eager to give the family answers, she also needs to prove herself as the team’s newest recruit.’
‘The pressure is multiplied when her new blended family struggle to settle in Morecambe, proving to Jenn that a fresh start might not be as simple as moving to a different town.’
The Bay is available to watch on ITV Hub.
