The news that The Bad Batch’s third and next season would also be its final has caused a lot of conflicting reactions among Star Wars enthusiasts.
The animated series, which premieres in 2021, serves as both a continuation of and a spin-off from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
It centres on Clone Force 99, also referred to as the Bad Batch, a group of skilled clone soldiers with genetic defects who are all given Dee Bradley Baker’s voices.
16 episodes made up the first season, which debuted earlier this year and continued through March.
This past weekend, it was reported that in addition to a third season, the series will come to an end.
Brad Rau, Jennifer Corbett, and Athena Portillo, the programme’s executive producers, announced the information at a panel for the show on Monday at the Star Wars Convention.
The upcoming season’s teaser, which is claimed to have started with Ian McDiarmid’s Emperor Palpatine speaking to Dr. Royce Hemlock, was also shown to attendees at the event.
Papatine informed Helmock, who oversaw the Empire’s cloning initiatives, that “it is imperative that this facility remain secure.”
While Hunter described Omega’s capture, the video also featured images of Rex, Republic commandos, and bounty hunter Fennec Shand in addition to all of the Bad Batch members. (Ming-Na Wen).
While many viewers are sad to see the programme come to an end, others have expressed gratitude that it won’t be prolonged.
‘Thank you for bringing us another season. Sad to hear it’s the final one but hopefully you can give us an epic ending. Very excited to see what’s in store for season 3! Absolutely love the Bad Batch,’ one person posted on Twitter.
‘I’m so excited, but also bummed it’ll be the last. Hoping for more clone stories though, I don’t want it to end,’ another said.
Another added: ‘Glad to be getting another season but really sad it’s the final season. I guess it was too much to hope for more (like Clone Wars), where we could really explore the lives of the clones during the rise of the Empire.’
Jennifer Corbett, the show’s executive producer and chief writer, also tweeted that she was “beyond thrilled and grateful” that the third and final season of the programme was being ordered.
She thanked the crowd and said how eager the team was for them to see what was in store.
The four-day Star Wars Celebration event in London featured key announcements, exhibitions, interviews, and screenings. The original Star Wars Celebration event was held in Denver, Colorado in 1999 to commemorate the release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.
The cast this time around included Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Daisy Ridley, Jude Law, Rosario Dawson, and Giancarlo Esposito, in addition to many more well-known names.
