The Apprentice bosses have strongly stressed the wellbeing of its contestants is of ‘paramount importance’ after former star Navid Sole alleged he was bullied during filming.

The 27-year-old pharmacist, who was the latest candidate eliminated from the hit show, claimed that a fellow contestant called him a ‘snake’ and said producers didn’t check to see if he was ok.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said: ‘The bullying affected my performance on the whole show.

‘I went to the house and cried to myself because I felt like nobody else was helping. I was worried other contestants would think I was weak by crying.’

However, the BBC One show, which features Lord Alan Sugar at the centre, described the claims about lack of care on their part as ‘unsubstantiated’ and said they did not reflect the measures put in place to protect the entrepreneurs.

A spokesperson for the show responded: ‘The wellbeing of the candidates who take part in The Apprentice is of paramount importance.

‘Thorough and robust duty of care protocols are in place which include an experienced network of support for candidates who are in regular contact before, during and after filming.’

The hit annual series, which follows a group of eager hopefuls fighting to get a £250,000 investment from the business mogul, was recently hit with another accusation from a previous contestant.

Former star Thomas Skinner told the Daily Star: ‘Before you go on the show you go through the interview stages and you’ve got people from all over – from London, from Ireland, from Manchester, and you’re in this room and they told us to line up from ugliest to prettiest.

‘And you don’t know who these people are and you’ve got people arguing about who’s the prettiest,’ he added.

Elsewhere, fellow competitor Shama Amin made the decision to leave the 2022 series due to her rheumatoid arthritis – a condition that causes pain, swelling, and stiffness in the joints.

The 41-year-old children’s day nursery owner told Lord Sugar the contest had become too ‘physically demanding’ for her.

In Thursday’s episode, the mum-of-five said: ‘I would just like to say something, Lord Sugar, if that’s OK. I suffer from a condition called rheumatoid arthritis.

‘Because of medical reasons, due to this process being so physically demanding, despite the efforts the whole team has made to support me, I’ve had to make a difficult decision to leave the process.’

The Apprentice airs every Thursday at 9:00pm on BBC One
