The Apprentice 2023 runner-up has revealed what she would have done differently in the finals if she had won Lord Alan Sugar’s investment.
During the last episode of this year’s BBC series, Rochelle Anthony competed against Marnie Swindells for a £250,000 investment in their firms.
In the end, Lord Sugar chose Marnie as his winner, opting to partner with her to grow her boxing facility, now known as BRONX.
Rochelle spoke to Metro.co.uk about missing out on a chance to have a quarter-million pounds poured into her Milton Keynes hair shop, The Dollshouse, which is devoted to diversity and caters to all types of hair.
Looking back on the final, when Rochelle got assistance from prior finalists to begin her firm, she stated she didn’t “regret anything,” but she did admit what she would have done differently if given the chance.
‘I would have had more models with different types of hair textures. That was something that was really important to me, and I had to choose between going onto the metaverse team or actually being in the advert,’ she explained.
‘Because obviously with limited resources I wasn’t able to get external models in, I didn’t even have time to make my hair how it naturally is. So that was the one thing that I would have changed if I could have.’
Continuing to stress The Dollshouse’s emphasis on inclusion, she added: ‘I would have been able to showcase more cultures, more races.
‘I’m very focused on women being able to unveil in my salon that wear hijabs, so that was something that I would have loved to showcase, that everyone is welcome in my salon, no matter your hair texture, no matter your skin tone, we can do and handle all hair types. So that would have definitely been something that I would have loved to have been able to showcase a little bit more.’
While Rochelle did not get Lord Sugar’s money, she disclosed that he had contacted her to give his assistance.
‘He was like, “Keep in touch.” He and his whole team have been incredible. And they’re like, “If there’s anything you need, please let us know.”’
“If there is anything you require, please let us know,” they say.
After reaching out to the business magnate to thank him for the chance, the entrepreneur claimed that he and his wife ‘thought very lovingly’ of her while watching the show.
‘His business advisors were like, “Look, if you need anything, then we’re always here for you.” So that’s incredible to have that kind of support from him. His team is just amazing that I can email him and just be like, “What do you think of this?” and he’ll definitely respond,’ she remarked.
Rochelle’s goals for her business are as follows: she has been in charge of it for 12 years, so it will continue as before, but she also hopes to restart the academy element of the firm to teach other hair professionals so that they may expand their talents.
‘I’m going to continue with The Dollshouse and just keep on promoting the brand message and the ethos that has kept us going for the past 12 years,’ she vowed.
The Apprentice is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
