Strictly pro Nikita Kuzmin fundraises for Diabetes UK in isolation walking around hotel room after praise for revealing flash glucose monitor

Strictly Come Dancing pro Nikita Kuzmin has been making the most of his time in isolation by fundraising for Diabetes UK, after previously receiving praise for revealing his flash glucose monitor.

The dancer – who was forced to miss the beginning of the Live Tour after testing positive for Covid – has been live streaming on his Instagram page all day to raise money in an amazing gesture.

He’s been walking around his hotel room and tracking his steps while fans have cheered him on in the comments and donated.

Nikita is truly committed to his cause, and at the time of writing, had already raised over £1,300.

Hundreds of followers have tuned in throughout the day to offer words of encouragement and to keep him entertained by asking questions.

He’s shared everything from his favourite football teams and even held a little sing-a-long to Consequences by Camila Cabello, which he was meant to dance to with Tilly Ramsay.

TV presenter Tilly joined his live at various points along with her fellow celebs and pros to be Nikita’s own personal cheerleaders in between the shows.

The Strictly Tour is currently in Birmingham and will head to Leeds next week to continue its sparkling 33-date run.

Nikita’s kind act comes after he was commended while appearing on the hit BBC show for showing his flash glucose monitor on his arm.

In one of the most iconic moments of series 19, he took off his shirt while performing the samba with Tilly in the dance off to Dua Lipa’s Levitating.

Losing all inhibitions and truly bringing the party, Nikita swung his Hawaiian shirt around his head, revealing the white patch, which is used for people who have Type 1 diabetes.

Viewers were quick to thank Nikita for offering them representation and raising awareness.

One Strictly fan tweeted: ‘Thank you, Nikita, for displaying your Libre sensor! As a fellow T1 diabetic, these devices are gamechangers and to see a celeb wearing one is normalising their use.’

While another said: ‘First time I’ve cried when someone’s left #strictly. Tilly and Nikita have been delightful to watch and seeing Nikita show off his diabetes Libre sensor has just made me love him even more.’

If you’re wondering what Nikita had on his arm, it’s a blood glucose sensor for diabetics. Here’s mine #Strictly pic.twitter.com/B6MQUOTLnD

Never knew Nikita was diabetic until he ripped his shirt off. Kudos, young man. #Strictly

Nikita announced that he would be missing some of the tour due to Covid after the first show, when TikTok star Tilly danced with Neil Jones instead.

He shared on Instagram: ‘So sad to be missing a portion of the Strictly Live Tour, but unfortunately I tested Positive for COVID-19. Lots of luck to all the amazing Strictly Cast Will be back as soon as I can :)’

We can’t wait to see Nikita back on the dance floor, and we’ll be cheering on his charity work in the meantime!

Strictly Come Dancing is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
