Nigel Harman and Katya Jones have had to withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing.
The duo were scheduled to perform the Charleston in the quarter-finals but have withdrawn due to medical reasons.
A BBC spokesperson said: ‘Unfortunately Nigel has sustained an injury which means he is unable to perform in tonight’s show and has had to withdraw from Strictly.’
The series’ official Instagram account announced the news.
Alongside the statement, they added: ‘We wish Nigel a speedy recovery and they both will be very much missed by our entire Strictly family.’ The post was shared by actor Nigel, 50.
The duo, who have yet to participate in a dance-off, are ‘disappointed’ with the scenario.
‘Nigel wasn’t in training this morning, and other dancers were informed later on in the day. He and Katya were really disappointed as they were hoping to stay in the competition,’ a source told The Sun.
‘They hadn’t been in the bottom two so had a real chance of making it to the finals.
‘Nigel has been training really hard and really threw himself into rehearsals.’
The battle is now down to four couples: Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell, Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola, Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin, and Annabel Croft and Johannes Radebe.
Katya, 34, expressed her enthusiasm about their approaching performance just four hours before the announcement.
Katya commented below the Strictly Come Dancing logo, which had been adorned with the word’musicals’ in support of the themed week: ‘Here we go!!!’
The BBC has yet to make any statements on how this will affect the next three episodes. In 2021, AJ Odudu had a foot injury and was unable to compete in the live final, resulting in only two couples competing. The final in 2023 might follow a similar pattern.
Nigel isn’t the only one who departed the show without a vote; Amanda Abbington, 39, resigned after five weeks.
‘Amanda Abbington is unable to continue in Strictly Come Dancing and has opted to retire from the competition,’ a Strictly spokeswoman said at the time. ‘The programme wishes her the best of luck in the future.’
Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One.
