Carol Vorderman has sworn on live television to commit herself to ‘getting rid of as many Tories as possible’ in government.
On the most recent edition of Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, the former Countdown star appeared alongside hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer, as well as guests Matt Lucas, Richard Armitage, and Ruth Madeley.
After talking about her new quiz book Carol Vorderman’s Perfect 10, the subject went to politics, with the 62-year-old emphasising that she doesn’t’support any party’ and doesn’t ‘wish to join any party’.
Carol went into depth on the British government’s first-past-the-post voting method, which she said can lead to tactical voting rather than ensuring that every vote counts.
‘We are the only country other than Belarus – which isn’t exactly known for its democracy – that uses only a first-past-the-post system,’ she shared.
‘After the First World War, women got the vote for the first time, after the Second World War, the welfare state was created.
‘I get this sense, particularly from the younger generation, who want something that’s new. They want a new system of life, they want people to be more equal, for a system to be fairer.’
Carol then added: ‘So for the next year, I’m devoting myself to the election and getting rid of as many Tories as possible.’
After the TV star’s comments, there was an audible gasp in the studio, with the presenters assuring viewers that this was Carol’s personal political stance.
The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campmate had been fired from her BBC Radio Wales presenting job for violating the station’s new social media policies.
Carol had been hosting the radio station’s Saturday morning show since 2019.
However, in November, it emerged that because she had breached the guidelines, ‘BBC Wales management have decided [she] must leave’.
The presenter is typically vocal about her political views, having lambasted Boris Johnson and labelled him ‘disgusting’ after he quit as British MP.
After the news was announced of Carol no longer working with BBC Radio Wales, Carol shared on social media: ‘I want to say from my heart, thank you, I am overwhelmed by all of your support, it’s just extraordinary.
‘You know we’re all in this together, and we will, absolutely will make it right, because you’re bloody marvellous, you are.’
Sunday Brunch airs on Sundays from 9.30am on Channel 4.
