Shirley Ballas of Strictly Come Dancing did not receive the Disney moment she had hoped for after slipping down a staircase while recreating a scene from Aladdin.
The reality TV show judge and professional dancer was doing a routine to A Whole New World with his buddy Nathan Grundy. Initially, everything went smoothly as they portrayed Aladdin and Jasmine, but a decision to try out a magic carpet derailed the performance.
After dancing at the bottom of a staircase, Shirley, 62, ascended as Nathan, shirtless, attempted to present her with flowers and followed her with the carpet they had been dancing on.
They soon emerged on the carpet on the landing, but their attempts to descend quickly went awry, despite the mystical cloud effects that had established the scene.
After tossing petals to the guy who was recording, Shirley grabbed Nathan as he pushed off to begin their descent.
While keeping their figures upright as they descended, they encountered an obstacle that caused Shirley to topple over her companion and slide down the rest of the stairs.
It appears she did not injure herself, as Nathan slipped down to check on her as she laid on her back laughing and the two were in fits of laughter.
Shirley gave light entertainment, and likely a caution to others not to try this at home as well, with the caption “When your magic carpet doesn’t fly and your tikky tokky doesn’t quite go according to plan.”
Shirley has had an eventful week as her son, Dancing with the Stars professional dancer Mark Ballas, announced his resignation from the show.
Son of Shirley and Mark ‘Corky’ Ballas, the three-time Mirrorball trophy winner joined the programme in 2007, but announced on Monday that he would be leaving.
Mark had been paired with several celebrities over his 20 seasons on the programme, including Kim Kardashian, Melissa Joan Hart, Shannon Doherty, Kristin Cavallari, and Charli D’Amelio, with whom he won the most recent season.
In a statement Shirley stated that his contributions to the series were “nothing short of spectacular.”
She added: ‘I’m so excited for this next chapter in his life and looking forward to seeing where he goes next.’
