Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has hit back at the viewers who complained to Ofcom about Saturday night’s drag performance.
Professional dancer Johannes Radebe tore up the dancefloor alongside his co-stars Gorka Marquez and Giovanni Pernice for a glorious tribute to musical Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, which was hailed by fans as ‘one of the best opening dances’.
The Sun has since reported that 100 close-minded viewers took to the broadcasting watchdog to complain about the number.
However, Craig, who is famous for his straight-talking criticism, said that the people who did not enjoy Saturday night’s routine should have watched another channel.
Appearing on Tuesday’s instalment of Steph’s Packed Lunch, host Steph McGovern quizzed the judge about the complaints.
Branding the complaints ‘madness’, Craig told the host: ‘It’s a form of theatre. They’re artists, they’re dancers and they are involving themselves in characters.
‘I was just really sad that I didn’t make an entrance, I was so jealous, I wanted to be in there with a big blue emu on my head.’
‘I think it’s mad to complain about something like that… If you haven’t seen that movie, I suggest you go and watch it and see why they were doing what they were doing’ he added.
‘It’s not just for fancy dress… I think the people that are complaining just need to turn onto another station.’
Speaking about this year’s contestants, Craig went on to add that HRVY is his favourite dancer, while comedian Bill Bailey has ‘surprised’ him.
‘He’s absolutely been incredible week by week and has proved that with a lot of study you can actually achieve quite a bit,’ Craig said about Bill.
‘He is really magnificent to watch, he has his very own style and he doesn’t copy anyone. That is amazing, it just makes him really unique and a stand-out artist and performer.’
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7.15pm on BBC One and Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4.
