Lewis Hamilton reveals he has suffered one his ‘hardest weeks’ while recovering from coronavirus.
The Formula One champion tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this month and was forced to self-isolate, missing the penultimate Grand Prix in Sakir.
Sharing an update with his social media followers, Lewis filmed a video from his hotel room in Bahrain and thanked them for their support while also revealing how he’s coped with fighting the virus.
‘It’s definitely been one of the hardest weeks that I’ve had in some time,’ Lewis began.
He continued: ‘Just been focusing on recovering and getting back in shape so I can get back in the car and race the final race in Abu Dhabi.
‘I woke up today feeling great and got my first workout in early so wanted to send you guys positivity and let you know I’m OK. I want to thank every single one of you for sending me the amazing messages and videos, I really appreciate it.’
Offering support to others during these difficult times, Lewis added: ‘I hope that wherever you are, you’re staying positive and fighting through whatever you’re facing. I hope that I can get back in the car soon. And I’m sending you guys love.’
When he was diagnosed on November 30, it was said that Lewis had mild symptoms of Covid-19. His 10-day isolation ends on Thursday.
The racer said at the time: ‘I am devastated that I won’t be racing this weekend. Since we started the season in June my team and I have been taking all the precautions we possibly can and following the regulations in order to stay safe.
‘Unfortunately, even though I returned three negative results this past week, I woke up on Monday morning with mild symptoms and requested another test which came back positive.
‘Please look after yourselves out there, you can never be too careful. These are worrying times for everyone and we need to make sure we are looking after ourselves and each other.’
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is set to take place on Sunday, December 13.
