Fans of Stranger Things have come up with an interesting idea about Will Byers and The Clash because they have nothing else to do while they wait for season five.
Finn Wolfhard let slip that the next episode of the Netflix show might not come out until January 2025. Since then, fans have only been able to watch old episodes and talk about them.
They went back to season two to show how Max Mayfield’s (Sadie Sink) love of Kate Bush’s music affected Will (Noah Schapp) back in the day.
Max played Kate Bush’s 1985 hit song Running Up That Hill to get away from Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) in the most famous scene from season four.
As the archvillain tries to take over Max’s mind, Kate Bush’s words helps her get back to reality as she runs away from him.
And fans of Stranger Things think that The Clash’s music saved Will when he went to the Upside Down by accident in seasons one and two.
Reddit user Agentfoxywind explains: ‘[Did] Will survive so long in the Upside Down was because he kept singing Should I Stay or Should I Go?’
‘Since Max’s music kept Vecna away, did Will’s song do the same for him?’ they asked, after Will managed to survive for weeks in the dangerous parallel world.
The Clash put out the song Should I Stay or Should I Go in 1982. After being used in an ad for Levi’s Jeans in 1991, it went to number one in the UK.
Will “spoke” to the group from Hawkins, Indiana through the song during the second season, when they were trying to find him in the Upside Down and save him.
‘That’s actually a really interesting thought. Like it kept him grounded in reality enough to help him survive. Good thinking!’ one user agreed.
A second user commented: ‘And since Vecna wasn’t as strong as he has become by now, it was as effective as Max’s music.’
‘I like this theory. We already know he’s good at hiding, but the singing must’ve definitely helped him too,’ another user added to the discussion.
A preview for a stage play based on the TV show Stranger Things came out earlier this month. The play will be in London in the near future.
