Rob Brydon said that Margot Robbie’s love for Gavin & Stacey might have helped him get a part in Barbie.
The 58-year-old Welsh actor and entertainer played Bryn West in the 2007 BBC comedy written by Ruth Jones and James Corden.
Gavin & Stacey ran for a total of three seasons and had two Christmas episodes, the second of which finished on a cliffhanger about a marriage proposal.
And it turns out that Margot Robbie, who plays Barbie’s main character, was very affected by what happened to the popular characters in Barry.
Rob says that the 33-year-old Australian actor and director was a “huge fan” of Uncle Bryn when she started watching the show.
Speaking to Virgin Radio, he said: ‘I had a message a few years ago that Margot Robbie was a big Uncle Bryn fan and would I record a message for her birthday.’
He went on to say that he made the birthday video for her and hinted that the time he spent making it might have gotten him the guest part in Barbie.
‘I think maybe this part is her way of saying thank you,’ he said, after his appearance at the film’s premiere surprised some Gavin & Stacey fans.
He also gave details about the Wolf of Wall Street actress’ special birthday video: ‘I said, “Hello Margot. I’ve loved you in all your films and I’ll tell you for why…”‘
Rob says that Margot thanked him when they met on the set of the new Greta Gerwig movie. He says that the conversation was “quite nice.”
On July 21, the Mattel toy movie Barbie will come out in UK theatres. It will be up against Christopher Nolan’s biopic of nuclear scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, which is called Oppenheimer.
Margot said on Thursday that, in true Mean Girls style, she told everyone on set to wear pink one Wednesday when they were shooting.
‘So, On Wednesdays We Wear Pink was the game,’ she explained. ‘And if you didn’t wear pink there was an optional fine that would be donated to charity.’
See Barbie in cinemas on July 21.
