Warning: spoilers ahead for The Mandalorian.
Star Wars fans were both surprised and happy to see a familiar face appear in The Mandalorian season 3 episode 4, an actor best remembered for his iconic performance in the prequel film trilogy.
Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) had a flashback to an early recollection when he was saved from the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, which was under assault, in the latest episode of the Disney Plus programme.
The Kid was abducted by a Jedi Master named Kelleran Beq, who was played by Ahmed Best, who is well known for playing the eccentric Jar Jar Binks.
While some found Jar Jar Binks obnoxious in the prequel films with Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman, and Ewan McGregor, others adored the funny character, and dozens of fans have continued to support Ahmed on social media in the years following.
But seeing Ahmed wield a lightsaber and be the Jedi to fly Grogu away from danger warmed many people’s hearts, especially since Jar Jar was missing from the recently released Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
‘Forever grateful to Jedi Master Kelleran Beq for saving Grogu,’ one person wrote, while another tweeted: ‘Seeing Ahmed Best AS A JEDI changed lives.’
‘NO because you, Ahmed Best, will ALWAYS be the Jedi that saved Grogu and NOBODY CAN EVER TAKE THAT AWAY!!! I’m so HAPPY for you!!!!’ someone else wrote.
One fan added: ‘Seeing Ahmed Best on this weeks #TheMandalorian made me so happy and joyful, I cheered. What an excellent episode.’
‘It was so nice to see Ahmed Best back in Star Wars,’ another remarked.
While Ahmed is well known for his role as Jar Jar, he has also portrayed Jedi Master Kelleran Beq.
The character was initially revealed in Star Wars: Jedi Temple, a web-based game show that premiered in June 2020 on the Star Wars Kids website and YouTube channel.
Ahmed’s persona presented the show as a mentor for the contestants.
What else happened in the fourth episode of The Mandalorian season 3 outside the actor’s dramatic Star Wars return?
Grogu’s foundling training begins
Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) has been redeemed in the eyes of his religion by bathing in the Mandalorian mines’ Living Waters, which means his ward, Grogu, may begin training as a Mandalorian foundling.
Grogu astounds his audience by leaping over his sparring opponent before the village is attacked.
Later, while working with the Armorer (Emily Swallow) at the Forge, he has a flashback of his time at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, when a number of Jedi sacrificed their lives to keep him alive in the face of a lethal onslaught.
Paz Vizsla’s son is abducted
Ragnar Vizsla (Wesley Kimmel) gets kidnapped by a pterosaur after defeating Grogu in a dart battle.
Din, Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), and Ragnar’s father, Paz Vizsla (Tait Fletcher), join the Mandalorians on a rescue mission.
While it takes a lot of effort, partly in part to Paz’s lack of patience when attempting to rescue his own kid, they manage to save the foundling.
They kill the giant pterosaur and bring back its three chicks, who are now orphaned and require care and training.
Bo-Katan reveals her Mythosaur connection
Now that Bo-Katan has been accepted into Din’s credo, it’s unclear if she still retains sceptical ideas regarding the Children of the Watch’s beliefs, or if her scepticism has begun to fade.
When having a new set of armour made for her by the Armorer, she requests that it have the emblem of the Mythosaur, before disclosing that she saw the mythical beast in the mines of Mandalore in the Living Waters.
The Armorer doesn’t seem to trust her, maintaining that she saw a vision of the ancient entity… Will Bo ever tell Din what she witnessed?
The Mandalorian is available to watch on Disney Plus, with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
