Sir Patrick Stewart said that his casting in Star Trek was not as smooth as it initially looked.
The 82-year-old actor revealed he was initially hesitant to join the franchise because he feared it would interfere with his other projects.
He hesitated signing a six-year contract with the popular science-fiction series because he lacked confidence in its viability.
During a conversation with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning, the seasoned actor stated that his agency had assured him he wouldn’t make it through the first season.
He continued by stating that he believed it was inconceivable that he would still be discussing his role and experience on the otherworldly set years later.
Sir Patrick portrayed Captain Jean-Luc Picard in 1987’s Star Trek: The Next Generation and reprised the role in 2020’s Star Trek: Picard.
During the conversation, he also explained how his time with the Royal Shakespeare Company allowed him to flourish on the science fiction set.
Referring to the lack of pockets in the pants of the legendary outfit, the actor disclosed that other cast members battled with the lack of pockets.
He stated that he was accustomed to letting his arms drop at his sides because he wore tights and silly trousers when performing on stage.
Phillip demonstrated he was a real Star Trek enthusiast and die-hard fan when he excitedly questioned a Hollywood celebrity about his time as a member of the franchise.
He stated that Paramount, the network airing the Star Trek: Odd New Worlds revival series, offered him a first look at the full series, but he declined because he “didn’t want it to end.”
The presenter of This Morning then asked the actor if he would miss the franchise once it was ended, to which he answered, “No, because it still there.”
Star Trek: Odd New Worlds has been renewed for a second season and will launch on Paramount Plus on May 5.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
