Strictly Come Dancing has officially introduced Amanda Abbington as their first celebrity signing.
On today’s edition of The One Show, the Sherlock actress, 49, made an amazing surprise.
Amanda fought to keep her excitement in check as she sat down with former contender Sara Davies.
Speaking about the exciting gig, she said: ‘I’m thrilled to have been asked to do Strictly. I’m actually really shy and self-conscious so this will be a great opportunity for me to overcome those things!
‘Plus, I get to learn to dance which I am incredibly excited about. I’m really looking forward to the training too, I’m quite competitive as my family and friends will tell you. I can’t wait to start!’
With only two months until the BBC programme returns to our screens, they don’t have much time to perfect their movements.

Her long television playing career spans three decades, and she has also featured in several plays in well-known theatres around the country; she most recently starred in Steven Moffat’s The Unfriend, which was just transferred to the West End.
Her performance as Mary Morstan in Sherlock earned her the Best Supporting Actress award at the Crime Thriller Awards, as well as nominations at the Critic’s Choice Television Awards.
Stuart Broad, Brenda Williams, and Les Dennis are among others said to be joining the confirmed star on the dancefloor.
In 2022, celebrity cameraman-turned-dancer Hamza Yassin and his professional partner Jowita Przystal won the long-running ballroom tournament.
