Netflix’s You – no, not you – has taken the UK by storm since its debut in 2018, and as the show’s final season approaches, we’ve gotten some new hints about what to anticipate.
Penn Badgley, 36, probably had no idea he’d become famous for playing scary stalker-killer Joe Goldberg. But he did.
And, while the fifth and final season of what has been a very gory drama will be released in 2024, there is still a lot to be closed up.
Joe looks to be returning to New York for one last hurrah after leaving cities from New York to LA to London last season – and some familiar friends await him.
We all fell in love with the show with its darkly funny, unnerving energy, and riveting plot when the psychotic book-lover first killed in New York when he fell for an aspiring novelist Beck.
However, some hints were dropped during tonight’s Netflix Tudum Festival in Brazil, when the streaming provider presented a slew of announcements to an ecstatic audience.
Penn appeared on the big screen and gave us some You updates, saying, ‘Ola, Brazil. I heard you’re on the edge of your seat, anticipating the epic climax to You.
It then cut to a video of a man threatening Joe Goldberg with a weapon, and saying: ‘You know it’s funny this game, every year some body gets hurt.’
Then our protagonist – and, to be honest, adversary – appears to tumble out of a window. Oh, no! We mean, yeah! Oh, the perplexity.
Is the player going to be played?
We sure hope so, as Joe has piled quite a few bodies high as the series has ticked over into its fifth season.
‘You’re considering what – or should I say who – Joe will come up against as he finally returns to New York,’ said Penn, in his Joe internal monologue voice fans of the show will recognise.
He added: ‘Though I can’t say who just yet, as we all know there are many loose ends from Joe’s past. The question is, who are you?’
The video then cut to some familiar faces from previous seasons. See if you can recognise any of them…
Oh, em, gee.
