Welcome back to Shelby Company Limited, where things are about to reach an inevitable boiling point – with one crucial absentee.
‘This series has always been about Tommy [Shelby]’ Steven Knight recently told Metro.co.uk.
That’s made very apparent right from the kick-off of season six, where we finally meet back up with Tommy (Cillian Murphy) again after a two-year wait.
There are many loose ends needing to be tied up, as things pick up straight where they left off in that dramatically misty field.
But the complexity of Tommy almost seems like a minor detail when we dive straight back into the drama of episode one.
Obviously, major questions soon arise from the aftermath of season five.
Who exactly betrayed Tommy Shelby? How would the show address the absence of beloved star Helen McCrory, who played the formidable Polly Gray before her death?
Anyway, four years into the future, family tensions run high as the rivalries between Michael Gray (Finn Cole), Gina (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Tommy heat up, as the family sail off to Newfoundland with the promise of further riches.
The feeling of Polly’s absence continues throughout the episode, with it clear relations have soured between the Shelby cohort.
With Polly out of the picture, it’s immediately clear it falls on Ada (Sophie Rundle) to step into her shoes. Even if she doesn’t know it yet.
Michael and Tommy’s rivalry will surely develop in a big way this season if episode one is anything to go off, which seems something to watch out for even at this early stage.
Lizzie (Natasha O’Keeffe) and Ada struggle with their own responsibilities as mothers, as they approach a bittersweet Christmas Day, with none of the male Shelby clan to be seen.
Except, almost on cue, Arthur (Paul Anderson) who still has issues with drinking and beyond, failing to deliver, even when his sister shouts, ‘Where the F*** is Santa.’
Half passed out on the stairs, it turns out. Not much change there.
But what else is to come?
Well, Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin) is set to be back in a big way, as we start to unravel the complexities of his unlikely survival.
Elsewhere, it’s clear it’s the brilliantly scheming Gina who promises the biggest potential upset this season.
Anya Taylor-Joy is simply stunning as her character goes up against Tommy with no fear whatsoever.
And why would she have fear, anyway? Fans saw just what lengths she and Michael were set to go in season five, with nothing looking to stop them now as her family’s influence becomes even clearer.
Unsurprisingly, with what little we can spill, episode one leaves you wanting even more than you came in with.
Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy) is due back, and actual Stephen Graham fits in here, somewhere.
But with all that excitement and anticipation, what does the director of the moment Steven have to say?
‘Expect the unexpected,’ Steven said to Metro.co.uk.
‘I suppose in this series six we’re looking at can Tommy be redeemed? Can he escape from what he has become?
‘That’s the question that is answered into in episode six.’
It feels extremely exciting to have the Shelby clan back in business, for one last time at least, as the drama only just get started.
But who will come out on top? Well, you’ll have to wait and see.
Peaky Blinders begins on Sunday, February 27 at 9pm on BBC One.
