Nicola Coughlan revealed how she accidentally stabbed Bridgerton co-star Claudia Jessie on the first day of filming for the Netflix hit.
Appearing via video link the Derry Girls star revealed the mishap to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on Tuesday’s This Morning.
Nicola, who plays Penelope Featherington in the period drama, explained that it was her inability to walk in heels which led to the unfortunate incident.
‘It was evident pretty quickly on my first day that I couldn’t walk in these heels,’ she began.
‘So I was walking along during a scene and then all of a sudden with my corset and everything I had no sort of central strength so I completely toppled over and landed on the ground.
‘I got up and was like “That’ll never happen again” and it happened twice more. I fell over three times.’
‘The third time I was carrying a parasol, which you know held in the wrong hands is a deadly weapon. I fell forward really quickly and I stabbed Claudia Jessie in the hand and it drew blood,’ she added.
‘That was my first day, that was Eloise, yes I stabbed her.
‘But, she forgave me we are still friends.’
Bridgerton has gone down a storm with viewers, who are transfixed by the portrayal of Regency-era London in the period drama.
Earlier this month Bloomberg reported that the series had become the number one show in 76 countries on Netflix following its release.
It was also reported that the show had reached more than 60 million households.
Celebrating the news on Twitter, Nicola penned: I cannot believe this, I’m blown away thank you, thank you, thank you,’ she said in response to the news, before adding: ‘63 Million is like….I don’t even understand that as a number.’
This Morning airs daily at 10am on ITV and Bridgerton is available to watch on Netflix.
