Pornhub will be filmed after Netflix announced a documentary on the notorious porn website.
The film, Money Shot: The Pornhub Story, will be available on the streaming site next month.
The 93-minute documentary, produced by Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, will dive into how the internet ‘fundamentally transformed how pornography is manufactured and marketed’.
Long before OnlyFans existed, Pornhub debuted in 2007 and soon became the internet’s most popular adult entertainment portal.
According to the film’s narrative, it “allowed sexual content makers to access a vast audience while the firm generated billions of dollars.”
At the same time, it got entangled in claims of non-consensual content and trafficking on the site.
The film will also look at how anti-trafficking organisations have sought justice for victims, as well as whether or not the internet behemoth can or wants to safeguard the individuals from whom it profits.
It will’require us to engage with what sexuality and consent mean when billion-dollar internet platforms survive on user-generated content,’ according to director and producer Suzanne Hillinger.
She added: ‘Who has, and who should have, the power in these environments?’
‘Our hope is that this film generates important conversations about sex and consent, both on the internet and out in the world.’
Pornhub is no stranger to controversy, having had its YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok accounts taken down in the last six months for breaching the social media sites’ standards.
It happened after MindGeek, the site’s parent firm, was sued by multiple persons who claimed it benefited from the distribution of child pornography and non-consensual sexual films.
However, MindGeek has said the allegations lack merit and that it has ‘instituted the most comprehensive safeguards in user-generated platform history’.
Money Shot: The Pornhub Story is streaming from March 15 on Netflix.
