Neighbours will resume production in a few weeks, and Alan Fletcher has guaranteed fans that the show’s comeback would “start with a bang.”
Channel 5 cancelled the long-running Australian series last year, citing a desire to produce more “original UK drama.”
Fans, however, were outraged and did everything they could to rescue the program, starting campaigns and petitions that eventually led to Amazon stepping in to save the day.
Following a brief hiatus, it was reported last week that filming will resume next month.
Alan, who has portrayed Karl Kennedy since 1994, has now hinted what future episodes would bring.
‘I think will be the Neighbours people know and love,’ he said while appearing on This Morning on Friday with his co-star April Rose Pengilly, who plays Chloe Brennan.
‘That is for certain. But for stories know will kick it off with a big one,’ he added.
‘I don’t know what it is though. But people will have a lot to look forward to.’
He also stated that it had taken some time for the show to return to normalcy.
‘Neighbours is like a cruise liner and if you put it into a dry dock it takes awhile to set it all up again,’ he said.
Alan further stated that he had just received images of security personnel supervising the re-hanging of the Kennedy family painting on set.
With the majority of the cast and crew having made plans for what they would do when the programme ended, Alan had his eyes set on focusing only on music.
‘I have a music career planned for myself, and I’m really here to undertake a UK tour with my band,’ he stated on the show.
Earlier this month, Alan told journalists at a news conference that the fans were to blame for Amazon’s decision to grant Erinsborough residents a respite.
‘It was actually the fans that got the show back in the first place,’ he said. ‘Amazon has said to us that they saw the outpouring of grief,’ he said.
He added: ‘They saw the petition, they saw how many people were saying: “No, this can’t happen!” That’s fantastic, because it stimulated the recovery.’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
