Ncuti Gatwa has responded to more rumours about his sexuality, claiming that no one should ‘feel obligated’ to give up their personal privacy.
The Sex Education star’s debut portrayal as Eric Effiong in the Netflix series garnered him national renown as an LGBTQ legend.
However, the forthcoming 15th Doctor, who will take over during the Christmas season of 2023, has regularly cut down rumours regarding his own sexuality.
Ncuti, 30, is adamant about keeping his personal and work lives apart as much as possible.
‘After Sex Education, we all became public property, to an extent. You have to fight for your right to privacy after that,’ the Barbie actor said.
Speaking to British Vogue, he continued on to say he does sometimes feel as though he ‘owes’ something to viewers and fans of his work.
‘I believe everyone is on their own journey – it’s important that no one feels an obligation to others in relation to what’s happening to them internally.’
Ncuti reflected on the series that helped him become a national treasure, saying that Sex Education was all about “doing things at your own pace.”
Ncuti announced earlier this year that the upcoming fourth season of Sex Education will be his last, as he leaves to focus on being the 15th Doctor.
Following the announcement that he will be entering the Tardis, it was revealed that Ncuti had never openly discussed his sexuality.
So far, the buzz surrounding Ncuti’s Doctor has been out of this world, with multiple cast images displaying some spectacular ensembles thrilling fans everywhere.
Russell T Davies will return as showrunner for the upcoming season of Doctor Who, following three special episodes featuring David Tennant.
Davies, 60, oversaw the BBC series’ relaunch in 2005 and served as showrunner until his retirement in 2010, when Steven Moffatt was appointed as his replacement.
