Natasha Kaplinsky said she didn’t ask her husband Justin Bower before welcoming a family of Ukrainian immigrants into her house.
The 49-year-old presenter claimed she couldn’t wait to welcome the needy family and enrolled to take them in as soon as she heard about the Homes for Ukraine initiative.
The actress notified her hubby and children to the existence of their new lodgers after discovering a family of four in need of a place to stay through a WhatsApp group.
During Tuesday’s show, she informed Loose Women presenters Ruth Langford, Coleen Nolan, Janet Street-Porter, and Dame Kelly Holmes about her experience.
Natasha shared: ‘I didn’t even consult my husband, I just immediately registered I literally didn’t think about it I just registered.
‘It was a scheme that touched so many people in this country and I think it crashed within minutes of opening because there is such generosity in this country.
‘It took quite a while to get connected and so I just started a little WhatsApp group and eventually found the family that did come to us and then informed my husband and our two children.
‘They were just as happy as I was to be able to open our doors to strangers.’
The presenter revealed that the new tenants arrived with one bag between a mother, father, and two children and had been living in an annexe in her house for the last ten months.
She also mentioned how ‘wonderful it was to be that nice to total strangers’ and how her local community had joined together to welcome them.
After a burst of applause from the studio audience, Dame Kelly praised the presenter again and wondered where her “loving heart” originated from.
Her father was a political exile who opposed apartheid in South Africa, and she grew up in Kenya, according to the former Strictly Come Dancing star.
‘It gave me a sense of privilege and constant guilt,’ she said of now living in a ‘safe’ world where she could provide for her children and live comfortably.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
