That’s right, Bobby Axelrod has returned! Damian Lewis has confirmed his return on Billions for Season 7.
The 52-year-old actor revealed his exit from the US drama series following season five, which saw the hedge fund mastermind go to New York to put his legal problems behind him.
The A Spy Among Friends actress was spotted filming outside the Tower of London in November 2022, which understandably got fans wondering what it may signify.
Your assumptions are valid, because the actor will appear in six of the twelve episodes.
The official synopsis reads: ‘In season seven, alliances are turned on their heads. Old wounds are weaponized. Loyalties are tested.
‘Betrayal takes on epic proportions. Enemies become wary friends. And Bobby Axelrod returns, as the stakes grow from Wall Street to the world.’
Fans were naturally here for the surprise announcement, with one writing: ‘Honestly I was bored without Bobby Axelrod. Yasss!’
‘The show fell off big time without him. This is great news,’ another added.
A third person enthused: ‘Yeah! this is all the motivation i needed to go back and continue since he left.’
Damian’s withdrawal from season five, dubbed No Way Home, saw Axe lose all of his businesses to rival tycoon Michael Prince (Corey Stoll).
‘There’s a potential for me to return,’ the 52-year-old told the New York Times at the time. Yet, for the time being, Axe has been defeated.’
He said that portraying Axelrod was “probably the most time I’ve spent playing one character,” after leaving Homeland after three seasons as Nicholas Brody.
Damian’s exit from the successful drama series was precipitated by the loss of his wife Helen McCrory, an accomplished actress who died in April 2021 after a struggle with illness.
After a ‘sadness in our family,’ the father-of-two claimed he decided to stay at home with their teenage children after spending six months at a time filming Billions.
Billions airs on Showtime in the US and is available to stream on NOW in the UK.
