Warning: spoilers for Ms Marvel episode 1 ahead.
The world has finally been introduced to Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Ms Marvel’s launch on Disney Plus – and she certainly knows how to make an entrance.
The first episode saw the popular comic book character discover her new powers after putting on a mysterious bangle that she’d received as a family heirloom… and it’s fair to say things became extremely topsy-turvy from there.
This ends up culminating in an extremely intriguing post-credits scene, where a familiar character from Spider-Man: No Way Home made his return.
After going to a fan event called AvengerCon with her friend Bruno (Matt Lintz), where she took part in a Captain Marvel cosplay competition, Kamala ends up accidentally being at the root of a chaotic series of events.
Kamala’s superpowers are revealed for the first time – and of course in the age of social media, it’s all caught on camera, catching the interest of a certain department of agents.
Ms Marvel episode 1 post-credits scene explained
The first episode of Ms Marvel gave fans more than they were bargaining for, featuring an unexpected post-credits scene.
After Kamala caused a stir at AvengerCon, footage inevitably got out after being shared on social media… and landed in the hands of agents at the Department of Damage Control.
Many MCU fans will quickly realise that we’ve seen the Department of Damage Control before, having first appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming in the aftermath of the Battle of New York in the 2012 Avengers film.
The DODC is a federal executive department that was originally a subsidiary of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is tasked with dealing with otherworldly situations, such as the Chitauri attack in Avengers.
They were next seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home, when Peter Parker (Tom Holland), his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) were interrogated by agents in the department, one of which returns in Ms Marvel.
Inventing Anna star Arian Moayed plays DODC agent P Cleary, while he’s joined by colleague Sadie Deever, depicted by Orange Is The New Black star Alysia Reiner.
After the events that unfolded at AvengerCon in Ms Marvel episode one, Deever shows Cleary a video of Kamala, proving to them that she’s an enhanced individual.
Cleary makes the call to bring Kamala in… so it appears Kamala will have to contend with DODC agents hot on her tracks now that her powers have been revealed.
