Mark Wright has lavished Michelle Keegan with praise following the debut of her new Netflix film Fool Me Once, exposing her acting insecurities.
The drama, starring Dame Joanna Lumley and Richard Armitage, aired on the streaming site on New Year’s Day.
Michelle plays Maya Stern, whose life is turned upside down after her husband is murdered, before terrible truths are revealed.
Mark, the former The Only Way Is Essex star who has been married to Michelle since 2015, stated on Instagram how hard his wife works behind the scenes in order to be taken’seriously’ as an actor.
‘I can’t tell you how happy and proud I am for this incredible woman I call my wife. It’s hard for people outside to see the work that goes in to an actors [sic] life behind the scenes to get to the top,’ he wrote.
‘People might think that it comes easy, they just roll up and do their job but it couldn’t be further from the truth.’
‘Watching her nerves leaving the soap that made her over a decade ago, trying so hard to be taken seriously as an actor, moving into big serious dramas as her career has moved forward has been such an important thing to her,’ the 36-year-old continued, referring to Michelle’s role as Tina McIntyre in Coronation Street.
‘The hours and hours late at night reading scripts, after 15 hour days, attacking emotional and mentally draining scenes, living away from her family on the other side of the world, being told no, no and no time after time, worrying that her performance is going to be slandered in the media after all of the above, believe me isn’t easy but she keeps going and keeps growing, always smiling!!’
Mark added that he feels ‘so proud and even emotional’ after seeing how Fool Me Once Is ‘being loved all round the world and how Michelle’s performance is being praised’.
He concluded: ‘This is your time babe, this is what it’s all been for, keep shining girl your biggest fan is right here behind you, all the way!!’
Along with his description, Mark published many images of Michelle from the drama, prompting some Netflix viewers to take time from work to watch it all at once.
Michelle’s fans flocked to the comments section to praise the 36-year-old for her outstanding performance.
‘She was absolutely brilliant I couldn’t stop watching,’ wrote one person, also called Michelle.
