Two days before the final, Max George made his exit from Scared of the Dark official.
The Wanted singer shared her thoughts on the passing of bandmate Tom Parker on Wednesday’s episode of the Channel 4 show, which has eight celebrities trying to survive for eight days in complete darkness.
‘How do you deal with it? There’s no cure for that so you just sort of learn to carry on with your life. Deal with it? Definitely not,’ he said while sobbing.
‘I don’t think I’ll ever be OK with it. One of the last things I said to him was I thanked him for making my life so much better than it ever could have been.’
In the opening moments of Friday night’s grand final, the 34-year-old Glad You Came singer revealed his intentions to quit the experiment.
‘There are things I need to sort out in my own life,’ he said.
‘Being in the dark isn’t nice. I’m going to go home today and start fixing a few things,’ he told co-stars Chloe Burrows, Scarlett Moffatt, Nicola Adams, Paul Gascoigne, Donna Preston and Chris McCausland.
Viewers rushed to commend Max’s efforts, with one person penning: ‘He may not have stayed to the end, but Max George should be proud of himself. It’s a difficult thing to admit you need to get help & it’s just as hard to make that first move.
‘Everyone’s reaction to him leaving shows what type of person he is. Love him to bits.’
Another added: ‘At first I wanted Chris, Gazza, Scarlet or Donna to win, but last couple of days I’d love to see Max win it.’
A third tweeted: ‘Oh Max. The right decision for you and power to you for knowing it. Now to the path of healing and processing your grief. I hope it’s good to you’
This comes after boxer Chris Eubank left the episode on Tuesday.
While speaking in the confessionals, he said: ‘It’s my last day in this construct. The real dark is where I’m going back to, where they need my assistance, whether they know it or not.
‘I am an entertainer and I’m sorry but I have other people to look after with my insight.’
Scared of the Dark is available to stream on All4.
