Mark Labbett has revealed he was not asked back to be a part of the latest series of The Chase US, and told fans he was ‘gutted’ no longer set to be a part of the spin-off.
Mark aka The Beast has been a Chaser on the UK version of the programme since it began back in 2009.
He’s also featured on spin-offs in the US and Australia, with the franchise remaining popular with audiences worldwide.
However, he’s revealed to fans he will no longer be a Chaser on the US version, after he was axed from the line-up.
The US show’s official account updated fans on their new quizzers, sharing: ‘New season. New Chasers. Victoria Groce, Brandon Blackwell, and Buzzy Cohen join Brad Rutter and James Holzhauer on May 3 when #TheChase returns.’
Mark replied: ‘Gutted to not be invited back but really excited at the new lineup.
‘Am expecting Brandon and Victoria to wow America.”
In a follow-up tweet, Mark said: ‘Really hope somebody gives @BrookeBurns the shot she deserves at a network show.’
When asked by a fan why he was absent, he explained: ‘No they just didn’t renew me. No reason was offered.’
Luckily, Mark will be going nowhere soon on the original UK version, as he’s currently busy filming more Beat The Chasers.
The show spin-off has become a popular evening fixture on ITV, which sees members of the public take on up to five Chasers as they compete for large sums of money.
On Thursday, Anne Hegerty announced she had been forced to drop out of filming for Beat The Chasers due to catching Covid.
Taking her place on the fifth series of the show will be Issa Schultz, ‘The Supernerd’ from The Chase Australia.
Anne announced the news on Twitter this afternoon, writing: ‘Unfortunately I’ve contracted Covid-19 so won’t be filming this series of #BeatTheChasers.
‘The fantastic @Issa25 will be stepping in for me and I’m looking forward to watching the series when it’s on air later this year. I feel fine, but I’m still positive! (in all respects)’.
The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm and Beat The Chasers will return later this year to ITV.
