Yewande Biala of Love Island is seeking to address one of the most significant age-old questions: why can’t certain women orgasm?
One in every eight women claims to have never experienced an orgasm, including scientist, novelist, and reality TV personality Yewande, who appeared in the 2019 edition of Love Island.
A description for her taboo-bashing documentary Secrets of The Female Orgasm, reads: ‘Brought up in a strict Catholic family, Yewande struggled with anxiety and shame around sex and she didn’t find out that women could have orgasms until she was 19 or 20.
‘In this one-off film, Secrets of the Female Orgasm, Yewande meets other women, scientists and therapists to hear their stories, research and advice.
‘Yewande will attempt to learn everything there is to know about the complexity of the female orgasm in a bid to experience one herself for the first time.’
Channel 4’s Chief Content officer, Ian Katz, enthused: ‘Channel 4 is often accused of being overly interested in sex but I believe we play a unique role in the broadcast environment, thoughtfully tackling issues that preoccupy so many of our viewers, particularly our young viewers, but which most broadcasters or streamers are too squeamish to explore.
‘Secrets of the female orgasm is as important an educational piece of broadcasting as you’re likely to see on any channel this year.’
Secrets of the Female Orgasm is one of many high-profile Channel 4 series announced on Tuesday, including Partygate: The True Story, Andrew: The Problem Prince, and Davina McCall‘s The Pill, which examines women’s uneven contraception options.
‘This is a slate of programmes that shows Channel 4 is as disruptive, original and purposeful as it has ever been,’ added Katz.
‘From holding politicians to account over partygate to examining the vexed debate over gender identity, from exposing the unspoken side-effects of the pill to seeking solutions to avert climate disaster, these are shows that speak to the concerns of young British viewers and create real world impact.’
