Love Island star Amber Gill has defended flying out to Dubai as parts of the UK entered stricter coronavirus guidelines.
London and the South East are now under tier four rules, which means people must stay at home over Christmas other than for limited exceptions set out in law.
It also means that non-essential retail, indoor gyms and leisure facilities must close their doors. Travel out of tier four areas is also not advised.
Amber was reunited with her fellow islander Kaz Crossley and has been sharing pictures and videos from their trip on Instagram.
The TV star explained that she wasn’t aware of the tier four guidelines and that her flight had been booked far in advance.
She posted: ‘Just want to put it out there that I had no idea Tier 4 was a thing.
‘The flight here was booked way before. I thought the only changes were being made on the 16th meaning I was still allowed to travel for work.
‘I have no idea what I’m doing. I was only supposed to be here 4 days. Now I don’t know where I’m supposed to go or if I should stay here, it’s all mad.’
She continued: ‘I like humour in sh***y situations & I’m aware how fortunate I am.
‘I like to laugh my way through life because if you don’t laugh you’ll cry. I’ve never not been in Newcastle with my family for Christmas.’
Amber also told her followers that had not seen her grandmother for some time due to lockdown.
When she was asked to post more pictures from her holiday, she replied: ‘It’s a tough time at the minute for everyone.
‘I try not to be too tone deaf but it seems like everyone wants to see the content.’
The former Love Island winner went on: ‘It’s so sad I haven’t seen my grandma for like the whole of this year. The most I’ve done is waved at her from a window.’
One follower commented that she was ‘right not to share your hol when things are so bad in the UK’ as they felt it was ‘bad for mental health’.
Amber wrote: ‘I had to watch everyone in Dubai when I was sat in the house and I’m glad people are having a good time and enjoying life.
‘There is s**t going on in my own life and I don’t expect people to stop posting certain things because it makes me feel a type of way.’
Dubai appears to be the place to be for Love Island stars, as Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury recently spent 10 days there on holiday with Maura Higgins and Chris Taylor before heading to the Maldives.
