Shaq Muhammad and Tanya Manhenga, one of the show’s ostensibly stronger couples, encountered a rough patch on Friday night’s episode, which worried Love Island viewers.
Tanya said her current partner had tendencies identical to her ex-boyfriend during a violent argument with the couple, who have been teamed together since the show’s inception.
During Thursday’s episode, 24-year-old airport security officer Shaq grew irritated with 25-year-old financial planner Ron Hall because he preferred to chat to his partner Lana Jenkins and Tanya instead of clearing up the dishes with the rest of the male islanders.
The issue persisted in the following episode and was the underlying reason of his disagreement with his other half.
Shaq pulled Ron to the side and said: ‘I just wanted to speak to you on a one-to-one basis, at the start me and you were very close and very tight and as time has gone on we’ve grown further apart.’
Following their chat, Shaq went over to Tanya and Lana, who also wanted to speak with him about the previous night.
She proceeded to express her emotions and irritated Shaq when she revealed he was demonstrating indicators of things she didn’t enjoy and reminded her of her previous relationship.
Fans on Twitter expressed their shock and concern over the couple’s present condition.
One penned: ‘Wow shocked Tanya and Shaq survived that’, while another commented: ‘The producers really just want Tanya and shaq out init. Not even mad atp but they ain’t slick [sic]’.
Despite their conflicts, the pair survived and will be featured in Sunday’s programme following a surprise re-coupling that resulted in the dumping of Ellie Spence and Jordan Odofin.
Love Island returns on Sunday night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

As they talk about Shaq summoning Ron to assist with the dishes, Tanya says, ‘It was impolite, he’s a mature man, he heard you the first time.’
Lana then added: ‘It didn’t sit right and I felt like it wasn’t about the kitchen.’
Tanya’s statements, on the other hand, did not sit well with Shaq, who confronted her later in the evening about not standing up for him.
He told her: ‘I wanted to speak to you about when you and Lana spoke to me, with that situation, I’ll be honest, I really didn’t like it. It felt like I was being told off.’
Tanya replied: ‘Babe, no one is coming to you like a child, I don’t know why you’re taking it like that.’
