In tonight’s episode, the Love Island villa residents will be treated to a special performance by worldwide superstar Ne-Yo.
It’s a programme tradition that a musical guest will visit to throw a party for the islanders once during the season, which must be exceptionally wonderful because they don’t get to listen to music while attempting to find love.
‘If music is the nourishment of love, please don’t play it till Ne-Yo is free,’ ITV urged.
Previous visitors have included Joel Corry, Craig David, who caused superfan Anton Danyluk to cry, and Tom Zanetti, who went on to date a Love Island star – Hayley Hughes (despite the fact that she wasn’t in the island when he visited to spin the decks).
Ne-Yo is single, so perhaps he can talk to individuals in between crooning and check whose doors are open.
The programme has gone a long way since season one, when Calum Best appeared as a celebrity cameo, taking the male islanders out for a night on the town in Magaluf.
We’re not saying Calum isn’t a great reality star, but he probably can’t sing Miss Independent like Ne-Yo.
Jess Harding is the one who informs her fellow islanders about the surprise arrival.
She receives a text from production which she reads aloud: ‘Islanders, it’s time to glam up and get closer because tonight the Villa will host a VIP performance from an International Superstar. #BecauseOfYou #TimeOfMyLife.’
The 22-year-old promptly deciphered the code and said, ‘Ne-Yo!’
The party then dived in the pool to celebrate the arrival of the Grammy Award winner.
We’re happy to inform that the islanders are paying tribute to Ne-Yo by joyfully singing his songs back at him.
Whitney even tells him ‘Love you,’ to which he promptly responds ‘I love you back.’
Maybe we’ll see him at Casa Amor. The return of the show’s drama-filled segment was hinted at the close of last night’s broadcast.
Scott Van Der Sluis approaches the group later in the show after overhearing them discussing his connection with Catherine Agbaje.
‘Everyone, can you all come round the fire pit? Me and Catherine were sat in the den and I can hear everyone saying my name multiple times. If anyone’s got an issue with anything that’s going on, just air it out now in front of everyone,’ Scott begins.
Tyrique is quick to respond, saying: ‘I feel like it’s a feeling within the Villa for myself that people think you are semi-playing a game…you’re definitely over exaggerating your feelings for Catherine.’
The debate reaches a boiling point, prompting Kady McDermott and Whitney Adebayo to clash over their mutual interest in Zachariah Noble.
Basically, if you want R&B music with a side of drama, you should cancel your Friday night plans.
Love Island 2023 continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
