Lord Alan Sugar wants to relocate his BBC series The Apprentice to Australia, it has been reported.
The businessman, who is currently in Sydney filming the Australian celebrity version of the show, reportedly loves the country so much, he is considering relocating the UK series there.
‘Lord Sugar has loved filming in Oz and has told BBC bosses that for next year’s UK series he’d like to take it out there,’ a source began.
‘While London is like a ghost town, there’s a real buzz in Australia and New Zealand, where life is almost back to normal amid the pandemic.’
‘There would be plenty that the teams of hopeful entrepreneurs could do, whereas filming in London is likely to still be tricky next year, especially as the restrictions change all the time,’ they added to The Sun.
Earlier this year, TV bosses were forced to cancel The Apprentice 2020 because the coronavirus pandemic made it impossible for them to film.
‘Sadly we have decided to postpone The Apprentice for 2020,’ a BBC spokesperson confirmed at the time.
‘Production safety and the wellbeing of everyone involved in the show is our number one priority.’
However, in order to fill the gap in the schedule, fans were still able to get their Apprentice fix as they launched a special highlights series – and it didn’t disappoint.
Over six episodes, viewers got to see some of the most memorable moments over the years – including the time Boris Johnson’s sister was caught lying.
The Apprentice is due to return next year on BBC One.
