Loose Women’s Brenda Edwards has revealed she was contacted by the police not long after she shared her story of domestic abuse on the ITV programme.
The 52-year-old presenter opened up about being a survivor of domestic abuse during an appearance in September and disclosed on today’s show that the Metropolitan Police checked in on her after she spoke up.
‘I was shocked and surprised when they got in touch,’ Brenda said.
Fellow panelist Nadia Sawalha commented: ‘You were so brave and it’s not easy to talk about.’
‘I just want to say thank you to the people who did get in touch to share their stories. Just talking helps,’ Brenda added.
Brenda bravely detailed the abuse she suffered at the hands of a former partner.
‘By the first punch, I loved him,’ she said at the time. ‘I was in love with him.’
She continued: ‘I found myself asking “What have I done to deserve this?” I literally found myself talking to myself. That’s a sign you’re not in yourself.’
Detailing one incident of physical assault over an argument about an apple pie, mum-of-two Brenda said: ‘He started strangling me. It was the strangling that made me say: “I have to get out of this.”
‘But I didn’t know how to. I hadn’t spoken to any of my family.
‘I thought, if I speak to my family, they’re going to get involved and this is going to get even uglier. ‘Then I’ll be blaming myself for something else.’
On today’s Loose Women, Brenda encouraged victims there is ‘light at the end of the tunnel.’
‘There is a path out there to safety – and I’m living proof,’ she added.
