Loose Women star Coleen Nolan has confessed her former relationship improved after she embarked on an affair.
On Wednesday’s broadcast of the ITV talk show, the former This Morning host, 58, spoke candidly about cheating on her then-partner, whom she did not identify.
Coleen emphasised that while she did not “condone affairs,” she started dating again since a previous relationship had left her feeling “unattractive and unloved.”
She said that while on tour with the girl group The Nolans, she met someone else who restored her confidence and “built up the self-esteem I’d lost.”
Speaking about the affair, Coleen continued: ‘It brought lots of heartbreak at the time but actually, when it came out, the truth came out, that relationship went on for us to have the best two or three years of our relationship we’d ever had.
‘I knew I’d done wrong and I’d never do it again but, I tried to talk to the person before it happened but they weren’t listening because they just took me for granted and thought, “She’ll get over it, she’ll be fine.”
For both of them, Coleen stated, it was a “wake-up call” since they both needed to “make more effort” in their relationship.
‘In that respect [the affair] worked,’ she continued. ‘But I could never do that again because it isn’t the answer.’
Prior to Ray Fensome, who she wed from 2007 until 2018, Coleen was previously married to EastEnders actor Shane Richie for over a decade, from 1990 to 1999.
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
