Law and Order Special Victims Unit (SVU) co-creator David Graziano responded to Kelli Giddish’s shocking exit after being targeted by angry fans.
The 42-year-old actress starred as Detective Amanda Rollins in the NBC drama for more than a decade, making her debut as the iconic character in 2011.
However, she confirmed on Instagram that she will be leaving the role behind in the upcoming 24th season, which left several fans devastated.
Addressing speculation surrounding her departure, she shared a statement on her Instagram page, which read: ‘I wanted to address the chatter I’ve seen online and let everyone know that this will, indeed, be my last season on Law & Order: SVU.
Following the news, executive producer David felt the wrath of devoted viewers, and responded to the angry comments underneath Kelli’s post.
‘You might take a moment to entertain the idea that things are more complex than they appear in a world of emojis and tweets,’ he penned.
‘All I’ll say is Kelli has handled this with the most incredibly classy comportment. She is, without a doubt, one of the finest industry professionals I’ve come across in my 24 years of writing television.
‘I’m saddened by her looming exit. It’ll be my lucky day if I ever get to write for her again.’
But good news for everyone, writer Julie Martin teased a satisfying outing for Kelli’s character.
‘Rollisi will have a happy ending. Stay tuned,’ she tweeted.
Kelli took a moment to thank those on set and behind-the-scenes for an incredible 12 years.
‘I want to thank Dick Wolf, Mariska Hargitay, Warren Leight, Peter Jankowski, NBC, Universal Television, all of my co-stars, every single member on the crew and all the writers here for our incredible work together these last 12 years,’ she continued.
‘I’m so excited to take all the things I have learned in my time on SVU and put them toward everything that’s next to come…. #SVU.’
Kelli joined Law & Order: SVU all the way back in 2011, and became an instant hit with fans.
The Good Wife star is no stranger to the L&O universe and had previously guest starred on the program previously.
