Katy Perry is claimed to be unconcerned with the backlash she received from American Idol viewers for her statements during season 21.
The Dark Horse singer, 38, has come under criticism from fans for some of her comments to this season’s singing hopefuls, including advising Nutsa Buzaladze that she should ‘have more grace’ after a dispute with another competitor.
For the first time in her five-year term, she was booed by a disappointed audience when she advised that the aspiring musician use fewer theatrics in her next performance.
Despite receiving backlash in recent weeks, an insider claims that the mom-of-one is unconcerned.
‘Katy isn’t fazed by the backlash,’ a source told PageSix. ‘This has been a rollercoaster season with a lot of great talent, so she is just doing her job.
‘She’s a mentor and a friend to the contestants.’
They also added that Katy ‘has a unique sense of humor that may not always translate well on camera, but she never has any ill intent.’
Since 2018, the Firework singer has participated as a judge on the panel, alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
Katy and Lionel will be absent for the following round of the tournament as they go to London to perform for King Charles III’s coronation.
They’ll be performing with Take That, Olly Murs, Andrea Bocelli, and many more at the star-studded bash this weekend.
The event will take place on the grounds of Windsor Castle on May 7, with 20,000 people expected to attend.
Luke will remain on stage to hold down the fort, with Ed Sheeran and Alanis Morissette filling in.
According to ABC, the couple will be temporarily joining the panel to assess the candidates and performing throughout their time on the show.
Alanis will also be guiding the aspiring contestants, who will cover some of her best hits in the round.
Luke previously teased the identities of their replacements in a previous chat with Entertainment Tonight.
‘It’s big time. It’s big time,’ he insisted. ‘The people that we have filling in, contestants have used their songs many, many times.
‘A lot more than mine!’
