Katherine Ryan and Jimmy Carr are known for having a close friendship, so much so that they don’t get offended when ripping each other to threads in savage roasts.
That’s made even more apparent in the new Amazon Prime Video series Backstage with Katherine Ryan, where the Canadian comedian offers a behind-the-scenes look at what her fellow comics get up to and chat about during a live performance.
In the first episode, 8 Out of 10 Cats host Jimmy appears alongside Katherine, as well as her co-writer Geoff Northcott, former Strictly Come Dancing star Seann Walsh, Too Hot To Handle narrator Desiree Burch, Ted Lasso actor Nick Mohammed.
While discussing possible jokes to make at Jimmy’s expense, Geoff suggests to Katherine: ‘Jimmy’s had a lot of work done. He doesn’t look a day over, “What the f**k is that?”’
‘He’d love that,’ Katherine replies, making it clear just how much her friend loves having the mickey taken out of him.
Later on, Katherine is backstage with curlers in her hair speaking to her peers, when she tells everyone that she’s going to head off to get ready as she has her own ‘dedicated makeup room’.
‘It’s an emergency room, isn’t it?’ Jimmy pipes up, as Katherine jokingly retorts that it’s a ‘special effects unit’.
‘The same people that did Jurassic Park,’ Jimmy adds, sparking laughter in the room.
During the stand-up show at London’s Roundhouse in Camden, Katherine appeared on stage to introduce each of the stars performing in the round-up.
Jimmy took the coveted last place, with the host using the opportunity of his introduction to poke fun yet again at the cosmetic procedures he’s had.
‘Jimmy and I try to outdo each other with the surgery. It’s an expensive and life-threatening game we play,’ she told the lively audience.
‘Just the other day I told my doctor I want 80s t*ts. You know that the kind that look more fake than Jimmy’s new hair,’ she added.
In February last year, Katherine had an epic comeback for a troll who felt the need to tell her that they thought she’d ‘gone too far with plastic surgery’.
‘Hi Clare, I got breast implants in 2004 and nothing else. Suck my d**k b***h. Have a great day! X,’ she responded in her signature quick-witted style.
Meanwhile in October 2020, Jimmy opened up about the procedures he’s undergone, saying: ‘I’ve had a lot of work done. I got my teeth knocked out and put back in.
‘And then I had a hair transplant in the lockdown, which I didn’t particularly need, but what else are you going to do in lockdown?’
