Jordan North left BBC Radio 1 after a decade and is currently working on a ‘never done before’ project.
In addition to taking over Roman Kemp’s Capital FM breakfast programme, he has headed his debut documentary, which addresses the topic of vaping.
Jordan North: The Truth About Vaping, a BBC documentary, follows the 34-year-old as he confronts his problem and assesses how harmful it is.
The episode, which is accessible on BBC iPlayer, represents a fresh opportunity for Jordan.
‘Never really done this sort of thing before, I promise it’s not preachy just wanted to find out more about it!’ he wrote on X.

Vaping documentary
Jordan started smoking when he was 16 and decided to try vaping a few years ago to help him cut back on smokes. Jordan’s method succeeded, and he reduced his intake to roughly five per day, but he now has a new challenge: the quantity of vaping he does.
‘Everyone said it was healthier, but now there’s loads of conflicting views,’ he summarised on the documentary. Calling himself a ‘clueless’ vaper, he wanted to get answers for people like him. In 2023, one in seven 18-24-year-olds – half of them never smoked cigarettes before.
Jordan uncovers a dark side of the habit, with almost 45 million illicit vapes sold last year. He discovered that many vapes included dangerous metal lead, which can have a negative influence on brain and nervous system development in young individuals, according to the World Health Organisation. He discovered that they can contain more nicotine than cigarettes.
Jordan’s ‘warning bells were ringing’ after visiting a scientist because of the number of substances in his system.
We don’t know what vaping does to the body because research is still in its early stages, but after meeting other vapers who have health difficulties and chatting with professionals, Jordan decided he wanted to stop vaping.
‘The risks feel pretty real for me right now. I really don’t want to be vaping any longer. I don’t want to be glued to this little stick in my head,’ he concluded.
Jordan’s career
Although this is Jordan’s first documentary since he was looking for a subject he was enthusiastic about, he has worked on many other intriguing projects during his career.
He began his radio career on regional stations such as Sunderland’s Spark FM and Preston FM before winning a competition to join The Hits Radio.
In 2014, he got his big break as a freelance cover broadcaster on BBC Radio 1. Jordan’s hard work paid off, and by 2017, he had his own Sunday show.
Since 2018, he co-hosts the podcast Help I Sexted My Boss with etiquette expert William Hanson. The couple use their distinct viewpoints to advise listeners on contemporary issues. The award-winning podcast is now in its 12th series!
Jordan made an impression on the TV world by joining up for I’m A Celebrity. Get Me Out Of Here, which was placed in a Welsh castle owing to Covid-19 constraints, was released in 2020. He finished second, with Giovanna Fletcher narrowly winning the title.
Despite being locked inside a snake coffin, being pelted with bugs, and forced to eat a sheep’s penis, he stayed positive, owing in large part to his ‘happy spot’, Turf Moor, Burnley FC’s home field. His gentle personality garnered him a devoted following.
After his reality TV stint, Jordan felt inspired to take more risks. ‘I used to turn a lot of work down and say no to things because I liked staying in this safe, cosy comfortable lane,’ he told us. ‘Now I’m like, “Let’s do it. If it goes wrong it goes wrong.” I’ve just got more confidence.’
He’s definitely accomplished that, having been on Celebrity Big Brother: Late and Live, Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, and hosting Top of the Pops. Of course, he has a new position at Capital FM starting next month.
‘Getting to host Capital Breakfast has always been a dream of mine and it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I simply couldn’t turn down,’ he said of the upcoming job.
Capital’s Chris Stark, who formerly worked on Radio 1, is ‘ecstatic’ to be reunited with his old colleague, along with fellow breakfast show presenter Sian Welby.
Mysterious love life
When he joined I’m A Celeb Castle, he disclosed that he was single.
‘I am single at the moment. But that is not the reason why I am going in,’ he shared.
Following his success on the programme, there was increased curiosity in his love life, but he has made a concerted effort to keep it out of the public.
He told the Mirror: ‘I’ve always tried to keep things pretty private. It’s sometimes quite unnerving when people are asking about your personal life but you know what, it’s part and parcel of the job.’
Jordan has also admitted to being at a different life stage than his pals. ‘How come all of my friends have kids, yet the biggest life choice I’ve ever made is switching from narrow pants to a slim fit?’ he inquired.
Jordan did reveal another aspect of his private life on his podcast, when he claimed to being tied up with a dressing room cord when a listener inquired about his kink.
‘He regrets that now,’ co-host William said.
