People watching Good Morning Britain may have gotten more than they bargained for when Chico showed off his abs live on television.
That’s one way to start the day!
Back in 2005, when he reached the quarter-finals of The X Factor, the singer became a household sensation, winning over the people with his cheeky and captivating demeanour.
He went on to have even more success with his 2006 hit It’s Chico Time, which spent two weeks at the top of the UK Singles Chart.
The X Factor veteran, now in his 50s, came on Thursday’s GMB to argue the case of people feeling more free by wearing less on a daily basis, after a lady claimed she was denied boarding a flight because of her bikini attire.
Chico, who was debating against journalist and broadcaster Afua Hagan, was asked by Ranvir Singh: ‘Do you think we’re a bit uptight here in the UK?’
‘We’re so uptight we don’t know what’s right! And now this is a fight, so I think we should just let it all hang out and especially… put it this way,’ he responded, as he began to stand up out of his chair.
Lifting his top up to reveal his chest and toned abs, he quipped: ‘Tell your viewers would you be offended if you saw that?’
‘It’s Chico time,’ someone said in the background, as the whole panel laughed at the musician’s bold move.
‘I’m 52 years young and not a day over fabulous. I think you should let it all hang out,’ he added, as Afua was asked if she found Chico lifting up his shirt offensive.
‘Listen, it was fine for Chico to do it, but if I did that, everybody would switch off the television immediately,’ she replied.
‘But why?’ Chico asked, as he continued: ‘See this is the thing for me. The body – you don’t have to have a six pack to be beautiful. You know that, right?
‘I think it’s about being your authentic self and being happy within your skin, because that beauty comes from within. Just look at your smile!
‘If you carried that with you, I think we should have this body positivity, and let’s not worry about how people look.’
Chico’s views were clarified further when co-host Ben Shephard questioned the fitness firm founder if he thought it was inspiring that the woman in the news article sought to check onto a flight while barely clothed.
‘No. I think that was a publicity stunt myself. That’s a different story. But you know – I’ve sat next to a lot worse,’ he retorted back.
Afua then went into further detail outlining her position, stating: ‘I think that, especially walking around the UK – I mean I get what you mean about Bali, you’re in a sunshine destination – but I think if you’re just walking down the street, doing the school run or going into the supermarket, just doing everyday stuff, I don’t think there’s any need to be wearing beachwear. You know – cover up.
‘Sometimes it can be a bit weird when you’re literally in the shop trying to buy your lunch and someone’s there with their top off. What is happening? And the thing is, in the nicest possible way, not everybody looks like you Chico.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
