The first reality TV male throuple is set to be featured on Made in Chelsea.
Channel 4 is taking the move seriously, hiring a “gay specialist” to ensure the subject is handled as delicately and truthfully as possible to minimise fan outrage.
When the new series premieres on Sunday, Joel Mignott, 27, Robbie Mullett, 23, and Geronimo Mörtl, 22, will share their first on-screen kiss in Corsica.
Joel has insisted that he’s not scared about angering fans or sparking Ofcom complaints from bigots ‘because Channel 4 have done everything they can to help us through this process’.
‘We even had a queer specialist who was consulting us on any emotional struggles we were going through while filming the series and afterwards,’ he told MailOnline.
‘The channel has endeavored to really be on our side in this storyline. If other people have negative complaints, then I don’t care because Channel 4 have worked with us tirelessly to portray this story in the best possible light.’
He added: ‘Being a gay person, you are more prepared for trolling because you are in the minority.
‘I don’t read the comments… my mum does. But Robbie and I are in this together, so we have got each other’s backs.’
Joel and Robbie started out as a pair and made a friend in model Geronimo before realising they had a love relationship worth investigating as well.
‘It was very slow, very sweet, very communicative. There were moments where we would stop and chat. It wasn’t just about the sex but what it all meant to us,’ explained Joel.
For years, Made in Chelsea has been a trailblazer for LGBTQ+ inclusion in reality television.
After years of having in relationships with ladies on the programme, Ollie Locke came out to his buddies on television.
In 2020, he married Gareth Locke, the first same-sex wedding to show on British reality television.
Made In Chelsea returns to E4 this Sunday at 9pm.
