The Power, a new Amazon Prime series with an all-star ensemble and dystopian drama delights, premiered on Friday (March 31).
Toni Collette from Knives Out, John Leguizamo from Ice Age, and Aulii Cravalho from Moana are among the major names.
So far, critical evaluations have been favorable, but audience ratings have been mixed, with early watchers voicing conflicted emotions.
The first three episodes of the series are now accessible on Amazon Prime Video, with the remaining six episodes to be released at a later point.
Fans are pondering whether The Power is an Amazon Prime original or based on current source material, as is customary with a brand new series.
Is The Power based on a novel?
The Power is based on Naomi Alderman’s 2016 science-fiction book of the same name, published by Viking.
The Power, winner of the 2017 Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction, recounts the tale of the day women discover they have the ability to discharge electricity from their fingers.
This unique ability enables them to become the ruling sex and create a matriarchy – though, as you might expect, this isn’t as straightforward as it sounds.
The book was compared to Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, which inspired an Amazon series featuring Elisabeth Moss.
It was also included on former US President Barack Obama’s selection of best novels of 2016, giving it a global boost.
Speaking about the series as it was announced, Alderman said: ‘The story is a global one, about the lives of women and men everywhere in the world, so I’m hugely excited.’
Where can I watch The Power?
New series The Power is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
The first three episodes were uploaded in a batch on March 31.
Following episodes will be uploaded in weekly instalments from April 7, with the fourth episode due out this time next week.
