You’ve Been Framed, the legendary TV show presented by Harry Hill that many of us grew up giggling at, has been cancelled, according to reports.
According to a recent source, the show’s run on ITV has come to an end, 33 years after it originally aired in 1990.
The programme, which was based on the Japanese show Fun TV with Kato-chan and Ken-chan, had members of the public send in humorous home movies.
The subjects of the amusing home films varied, but some of the most memorable frequently featured people experiencing comical slips and falls.
With the prevalence of social media as a source for humorous video, it has been stated that You’ve Been Framed being’shelved’ is a’sad sign of the times’.
A source told The Sun: ‘It’s a different world to Jeremy Beadle’s heyday. Why would viewers tune in to a show featuring funny videos when they could see the same sort of thing on the internet?
‘Silly clips are hugely popular on social media and the right video can go viral. There’s a thrill in achieving that – even though you don’t earn the £250 fee which You’ve Been Framed paid for contributions.’
While the scheme developed over time, donors are believed to have received the same £250 payout for uploading films.
When You’ve Been Framed initially aired 33 years ago, it was presented for seven years by Jeremy.
Lisa Riley took over as host from 1998 to 2002, and Jonathan Wilkes hosted the show for one year.
The programme was thereafter taken up by comedian Harry, who stayed on until the most recent season broadcast in 2002.
He came out about his extended stint on the show in 2019, stating that he isn’t on the team that reviews the films that are submitted.
He stated that there is a ‘big list’ of entries, some of which are ‘fakes’ and others are ‘sex movies’.
‘I’ve been performing that programme for the past 15 years. Do you believe that’s sufficient? ‘Maybe I should call it a day,’ he joked to The Daily Star.
Harry has voiced nearly half of the 701 episodes of You’ve Been Framed that have aired, starring in 341 of them.
