Holly Willoughby seemed to’respond’ to one of Eamonn Holmes’ jabs at the This Morning team.
Eamonn has spoken out against the ‘toxic’ climate at ITV’s daytime show, which he and his wife Ruth Langsford used to host.
He’s labelled Holly a “big mouth” and Phillip Schofield a “liar” after the latter stood away from the programme before resigned from ITV completely after confessing to a “unwise but not illegal” romance with a younger staffer.
Eamonn has previously accused the two of being ‘drunk’ while hosting This Morning, claiming Holly was ‘using’ Alison Hammond and claiming neither Holly nor Schofield knew the identities of staff behind the scenes of This Morning.
‘People would avoid him in the corridor. He didn’t look at anybody, he didn’t know anybody’s names. Holly doesn’t know people’s names either. This is legendary within the production team, that how distant they are and how they just don’t care,’ Eamonn said during his explosive interview with Dan Wootton.
Holly seemed to refute the assertion during Tuesday’s This Morning.
She mentioned one cameraman’s name in particular when presenting alongside Dermot O’Leary and Gino D’Acampo.
The filming had been fairly hectic, with TV chef Gino creating drinks in one part, blasting off a champagne cork that flew throughout the studio.
‘Oh my god you almost got Steve in the eye!’ Holly said.
‘He needs his eyes, he’s on camera four!’
Dermot added: ‘You almost hit Steve, we value Steve. Steve is like the poster boy for cameramen. No one injure Steve, for god’s sake.’
The moment came after Gino awkwardly brought up Schofield’s exit, teasing: ‘I was in Italy for a month. I came back two days ago … any news? Anything from the last month that I should know?’
Dermot looked embarrassed as Holly said enthusiastically, ‘No!’
As Gino pressed again, ‘Anything I should know?’ and Holly insisted there was ‘no news,’ Dermot had a The Office moment as he looked directly into the camera while awkwardly gnawing on a pen.
And in case things weren’t awkward enough, Gino picked up on this and asked loudly: ‘Why is Dermot not talking anymore?’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
