Another Game of Thrones prequel is in the works, and fans are going ‘wild’ with excitement at the news.
Others, however, have projected that George RR Martin’s book The Winds of Winter, the sixth novel in his series A Song of Ice and Fire, will be further delayed as a result of his involvement in the programme.
The series will be named A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, according to Max (an impending new streaming service in the United States that combines HBO Max and Discovery Plus).
The drama, set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, will depict the story of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg.
It will be executive produced by novelist George, as well as Ira Parker, Ryan Condal, and Vince Gerardis, with a’straight to series order’.
George had previously written about Ser Duncan – or Dunk – and Egg in a trilogy of fantasy tales titled Tales of Dunk and Egg.
Set in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, they follow Dunk, who goes on to become Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, and Egg, who becomes King Aegon V Targaryen.
The series had three novellas: The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight, published in 1998, 2003, and 2010, respectively.
While fans are excited to see Dunk and Egg on film, others have theorised that The Winds of Winter may take even longer to publish.
The fifth volume in the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series was released in 2011, thus the next installment has been a long time coming.
‘HBO will not see heaven if we never get Winds of Winter because they keep distracting George with a bunch of unnecessary prequels,’ one person tweeted in response to the announcement.
‘Oh sweet! Not only are we getting another Prequel (yay) but another reason for George to put off writing Winds of Winter,’ another remarked, while someone else added: ‘Crying because we’re NEVER getting Winds.’
Others, on the other hand, were overjoyed.
‘This is legit great news and a million times more interesting than a conquest or Jon Snow show,’ one person wrote, sharing their opinion on Twitter.
‘Just wanna let all the non book readers know that this is very good,’ someone else shared, for anyone not familiar with the characters of Dunk and Egg.
Season two of House of the Dragon has begun production, it was announced recently.
The rear of the terrifying Iron Throne in King’s Landing was shown in the first glimpse at the set of the second installment, which was shared online.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is due to air on Max.
