Dick and Angel Strawbridge, stars of the Channel 4 series Escape to the Chateau, have released a statement insisting that “there are two sides to every story” as they confirm their departure from the network.
Earlier on Friday, Angel, a mother of two, was allegedly captured on leaked audio attacking a Channel 4 producer.
The allegation of the recording follows Channel 4’s announcement that husband-and-wife team Dick and Angel were under investigation as the network severed ties with them.
The couple has issued a statement on Instagram, praising followers for their support and describing their future as ‘exciting’.
They wrote: ‘Thank you for inviting us into your living rooms. You have watched our children grow up and shared our adventures. It was a Strawbridge Family decision early last year to conclude ‘Escape to the Chateau’, but we have loved every moment and, despite the many challenges, we refused to give up on our dream, and in doing so have filled the chateau with love and laughter, and, most importantly, have created the most wonderful home for our family.
‘We know there are lots of stories in the press right now. It’s not worth us even trying to comment or give context, because anything can be made into a good headline. We understand.
‘There are two sides to every story and from the incredible support we have received, most of you know that.
‘We are proud of who we are, and we feel we must do what we believe to be correct, that is in fact what kept Escape to the Chateau unique, and whilst we have indeed parted ways with Channel 4, we are hugely grateful to them and their teams for their support and creativity over the years.
‘The future truly could not look more exciting and we thank you for your continued love and support.
‘Dick & Angel Xxx.’
Alongside their lengthy post, they shared a montage of images and wrote: ‘A big Thank You.’
Their statement comes after audio obtained by Deadline and heard by Metro.co.uk, in which it is claimed that Angel can be heard calling a member of the film crew a ‘f****d up little c**t’.
During the incident, a woman identified as Angel states that her spouse has a “piece of s**t” manner of speech.
The recording was captured during production of one of the first four seasons of Channel 4’s Escape to the Chateau, according to the publication.
Previously, sources told Deadline: ‘There has been a deteriorating relationship between Two Rivers and Dick and Angel’s Chateau TV for a variety of reasons, and it all came to a climax.’
‘Producers turn them into this perfect, brilliant, funny couple. They’re that on camera, but that’s about it,’ another source added.
However, one producer described them as ‘warm and welcoming.’
Channel 4 had commissioned an independent investigation into their behaviour, which is now complete.
A spokesperson for the channel previously said: ‘Following a review, we have taken the decision not to work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future.’
