At last night’s Oscars, Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount chimed in on the Gary Lineker controversy, and his comment was short but not sweet.
The 62-year-old footballer-turned-pundit was criticising the government’s recently revealed contentious programme to prevent illicit boats carrying migrants from reaching the UK.
Gary made a remark on a Twitter video posted by Home Secretary Suella Braverman in which she revealed government efforts to halt migrants from crossing the Channel.
Conservative legislators slammed his remarks and asked the BBC to take action.
Noel Phillips, Good Morning Britain’s North American reporter, walked on the champagne-colored carpet to discuss the current dispute between the BBC and Gary.
Noel talked with the 30-year-old former Waterloo Road actor about the impartiality controversy, and he just yelled, ‘F*** the Tories,’ while giving the bird to the camera.
Noel also met with musician Nile Rogers, who stated, ‘If caring for people offends someone, you know what I say to that? It’s not suitable for television.’
Despite the fact that Match of the Day was cut in half on Saturday, half a million more viewers tuned in than the previous week.
According to Barb’s overnight stats, the most recent programme drew 2.6 million viewers, while the previous week’s drew 2.1 million.
On Friday March 10, the BBC released a statement that read: ‘The BBC has been in extensive discussions with Gary and his team in recent days. We have said that we consider his recent social media activity to be a breach of our guidelines.
‘The BBC has decided that he will step back from presenting Match Of The Day until we’ve got an agreed and clear position on his use of social media.
‘When it comes to leading our football and sports coverage, Gary is second to none.
‘We have never said that Gary should be an opinion-free zone, or that he can’t have a view on issues that matter to him, but we have said that he should keep well away from taking sides on party political issues or political controversies.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am.
