If you’ve ever wondered just how marketing assistant Emily Cooper manages to afford her lifestyle in Emily in Paris the numbers have been crunched, and, it turns out she can’t.

The third season of the guilty pleasure watch was released earlier this week, and ended with Emily in an even more complicated love triangle after things seemed to be working out.

But while her personal life might be falling apart, her fashion is always something that is guaranteed to be on point.

However, it’s been a question since the series started just how she manages to afford such a luxurious lifestyle, with countless new designer outfits on rotation too.

Emily also lives in an apartment in the centre of the city and seems to splash cash going out to swanky events and dinners.

Now the time has been taken to figure out just how she manages to balance the bills of her enviable lifestyle and it’s been calculated that she’s estimated to be spending more than four times her salary on clothes and food.

Mon dieu!

According to Glassdoor, the average salary for her job in Paris is only €35,873 (£31, 713), however NewCasinos places her income higher at €44,000 (£39,000).

Her yearly spending, though, comes in at about €111,000 (£99,000).

While this includes her housing and food expenses in these figures, her credit card debt is likely very much in the red due to her love of designer clothes and accessories.

It’s also estimated that Emily spends about €71,000 (£63,000) on her clothing alone to have the likes of Valentino, Prada, Christian Louboutin, and Balmain in her wardrobe.

In the first episode of this season, two outfits that she wears cost a whopping €1809 (£1600) combined—a Magda Butrym Georgette Minidress, a Dundas Metalic Tanner Skirt and an Essentiel Antwerp Corleone Jumper.

The next episode also sees her don a Dolce and Gabbana zebra print jacket—which retails for €4524 (£4,000).

She’s not the only one splashing out though, with Camille (Camille Razat) wearing a Schiaparelli Cardigan Jacket worth €6560 (£5,800) in the fourth episode.

While it’s not clear if they’re ever gifted some of the items from brands, the seemingly endless outfit options suggest that there’s thousands being spent out of their own pockets.

The study also considers Emily’s rent to be a massive expense, apparently spending about €30,540 (£27,000) to live near the Pantheon on Place de l’Estrapade in the 5th arrondissement.

The fact she seems to always opt for taxis instead of the Metro also leaves her spending about €2827 (£2,500) on transport a year.

However she does seem to be living in moderation in one category, with her estimated annual expenditure on food about €2827 (£2,500), which could be down to the fact Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) might be providing her with free meals from his restaurant or that she makes the most of the canapes on offer at work events.

Her nights out with Camille and Mindy (Ashley Park) also only see her spend about €1131 (£1000) a year.

However Lily recently said that she ‘loved this idea of the suspension of disbelief that this girl just loves fashion so much’.

She added that she believed Emily and Mindy had ‘a giant storage unit of clothes they share, or maybe Emily does a clothing rental situation’.

Emily in Paris is streaming on Netflix.
