King Charles ‘would support’ Zara Tindall if she decided to sign up for Strictly Come Dancing, according to a royal expert.
The 41-year-old royal – who is the daughter of Anne, Princess Royal, and her ex-husband Mark Phillips and the niece of the King – could reportedly be interested in taking part in the BBC Latin and ballroom competition following her husband Mike Tindall’s success on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! earlier this year, with the full blessing of the monarch.
Mike made history as the first royal to head into the jungle, and came fourth in the series, beaten by former health secretary Matt Hancock, Hollyoaks’ Owen Warner and Lioness Jill Scott, who went on to win the show.
Royal insider Duncan Larcombe has now revealed: ‘Zara appearing on Strictly is not out of the realm of possibility.
It would be a gamble, but I think if she were to say she wanted to do it, she’d have the full support of King Charles.’
The equestrian – who has children Mia, eight, Lena, four and 19-month-old Lucas with the ex-rugby star – is thought to have been asked to take part in Strictly Come Dancing in the past and Duncan reflected that Mike’s reaching the semi-finals of the ITV jungle survival show was a ‘huge gamble’ but that it ‘paid off’ eventually.
He added OK! Magazine: ‘The invitation will already have arrived on Zara’s mat, probably for the umpteenth time, but it would be a very safe programme for her to take part in. Watch this space.
‘Appearing in the jungle was a huge gamble for Mike, but it’s really paid off. With his raised profile, Mike will now be of more value to more organisations – organisations that might normally want to get a working royal on board – so I think we can expect to see a lot more of him and Zara over the coming year.’
While Zara might have her sights on Strictly, head judge Shirley Ballas previously revealed she’s keen for Mike to enter the ballroom.
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk at the TV Choice Awards, when asked which celeb she’d like to see in the ballroom next year, she said: ‘It’s got to be somebody from the royal family, and I’ve been watching I’m A Celebrity and I do like Mr Tindall.
‘I think, come on, come on now, that guy. I’ve been looking at his neckline, I want to say to him, “You have a beautiful ballroom posture.”
‘I think we are next.’
Mike has already appeared on two reality shows, The Jump and Bear Grylls: Mission Survive, back in 2015.
Following his return from I’m A Celebrity, Mike opened up on how the Firm reacted to him signing up, revealing he approached the Prince of Wales before the news broke that he would be going into camp.
While he explained he hadn’t asked for permission, Mike said on his podcast The Good, the Bad and the Rugby: ‘You don’t want to upset anyone. I spoke to the Prince of Wales about it, and he said “Great, go have fun!”.’
Mike added that he wasn’t told not to share any stories about the royal family while in camp but was aware to be considerate.
As a result, he sometimes would ‘cut conversations short’ when being probed by his fellow campmates about life inside the palace.
