Sean Wife’s wife Jodeyne Higgins paid tribute to the former Dancing On Ice professional as she spoke out for the first time following his death on January 14.
The Canadian professional ice skater took part on the ITV competition in 2011 and 2012 and was a firm favourite with fans.
His death came as a shock to the world of pro ice skating, having competed in the World Championships with his wife Jodeyene, with who he shared daughter Signey. His cause of death has not been revealed.
Close friends confirmed that he died last weekend and Jodeyene has now shared an emotional tribute to Sean.
Posting on her Instagram page, she posted a photo with her husband’s arms wrapped around her, as the pair look to be enjoying a holiday together.
Jodeyne said: ‘One week ago today you left. So much has changed since you went away. I wish heaven had visiting hours so I could tell you I love you one more time.
‘This isn’t goodbye it’s until we meet again. Love you with all my heart forever and always. Xo’.
Some former stars and skaters from Dancing On Ice soon paid tribute to Sean themselves in the comments of the poignant post.
‘Sending so much love. Always just a call away,’ Mark Hanretty wrote.
Alex Murphy commented: ‘Sending so much love to you and Signey xxx.’
Chloe Madeley – who starred in the 2011 series which Sean was part of – added: ‘Sending you so so so much love Jodeyne.’
Skater Frankie Poultney confirmed the news last weekend, which came on the day Dancing On Ice returned for its 14th series.
‘Pro skaters are heartbroken today, we lost a true larger than life great – an epic skater, a husband, father, and my friend of 20 years,’ Frankie tweeted.
‘Sean Rice, 20/07/72 – 14/01/22 gone too soon, but we will Love You For A Thousand Years.
‘All of our thoughts are with Signey and Jodeyne.’
The show’s official Twitter account shared a statement on Monday afternoon, which said: ‘We are all deeply saddened to hear the news of Sean Rice’s passing.
‘Sean was a wonderful skater and friend to many on the Dancing On Ice team. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.’
It came after Dancing On Ice fans were left angered at the programme for not mentioning Rice’s death in Sunday’s highly-anticipated first episode.
The professional star was partnered with presenter Angela Rippon and former ski racer Chemmy Alcott during his two series’ on the rink.
A GoFundMe fundraiser page was set up on Saturday in the late star’s honour, to make sure his wife and daughter are properly looked after.
Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday at 6.30pm on ITV.
